Induction and Mentoring – Mentor Professional Development

The CEC New Teacher Mentoring and Induction program, provided in partnership with the New Teacher Center, is a foundational two-year professional support process for new teachers.

It focuses upon building systemic mentoring support systems for member districts. CEC helps districts develop a sustainable district new teacher mentoring plan, which includes administrative awareness and support, district-level programmatic design and implementation, and 1 to 1 or full-release mentor training.

In training sessions, mentors learn to build new teacher skills and competency through formative assessments, coaching and observation, and analysis of student work. Sessions also provide information on professional development for new teachers, coaching in complex situations, mentoring for equity, analysis of teaching/learning artifacts, and teacher advocacy.
